I’ve been a faithful Plex user for years now. Bought a Plex Pass after only a few short months of using the software after I wanted to show support for the project and also have access to the more premium features like using the app, which at least at the time required Plex Pass.
It didn’t take long for numerous updates to break the server, though. So naturally, I stopped doing auto-updates. Once, an update broke the system so badly I tried to roll the update back. Didn’t work, Plex wouldn’t have it. Only option would’ve been to uninstall and reinstall. Not an option.
So, I patiently waited for the next version to come out to fix whatever bug I was having. As a rule now, I never do instant or auto updates on the Plex Server anymore. In fact, I rarely update it, all but a couple times a year. I’ve been burned by too many updates and since my server is inaccessible to the internet (I do NOT port-forward like most of the Plex hosts do), I don’t worry about the lack of updates.
After one of the solutions to a bad/bogus update was to roll back to the previous version, I started saving older versions of the server software. It allows me to “roll-back” if something breaks, and since I never install the newest version, I also can “roll-forward” if the update of my choosing breaks something. Frankly, with how unstable Plex updates are, it’s almost a necessity.
So, as promised, here’s some recent PMS updates for what I consider the common OSes for PMS. I’m not keeping a repo of all of them forever, probably a few months back and only of the OSes I, or people I know, use. Enjoy.
