So I missed blogging yesterday… whoops. Got busy with studying and whatnot.
Okay, yesterday was a pretty long last day in the classroom with some dry material. The first part of the day...
Middle of the week already! I love short weeks. Started off with a test today, which could have gone much better. I missed four questions (grr!) but one of them was total a BS question and never covered, nor was it in our book. Oh well. This next block of information is again practical information and I feel like I’m grasping it really well from what we talked about today, so hopefully the test Friday goes better. The information is on IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) departures/arrival separation...
Today was a pretty interesting in class. We only spent a few hours in the classroom, and spent the rest of the time in the lab learning about what we talked about in the class. It was the tabletop lab, which is literally a tabletop cut out in the shape of our imaginary airport with 3D cut airplanes we can carry around and practice with. I have mixed feelings about it, but I can see where it would be helpful for someone with zero experience to...
Ahhh! It’s finally the three day weekend, and after a long week with three block exams, it is very much needed. The third block test today went alright. I got a 92% which, as far as I know, the highest score in the class. A few of us got 92% and we are all pretty much in agreement the test had several questions that were worded really poorly.
The rest of the day, we talked about local (tower) control...
“Have you ever been to Montana? It’s cold with not much around. In the middle of a field in Montana, there was a single tree. In that tree there was a bird’s nest. In the birds nest there was a baby bird. The mother bird had gone to find some food, leaving the baby bird unhappy. It cried and cried and cried until it fell out of the nest in the tree into the cold snow. This made the baby bird even more upset, and now he was cold and thus continued to cry. A cow came along, heard the bird crying, and crapped...
Today went by pretty fast. We had our second block test, which covered material from the last few days. It went significantly better than the first test, for me. I scored 100% (though I believe the test was also easier than the first…). From what I overheard there were several other perfect scores, but also a share of not-so-perfect scores. I felt good about it, even though it’s pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things for...
Today was a bit more exciting for a classroom day, compared to yesterday. We started off the day with the usual phraseology around the room exercises (which are getting to a point where people are memorizing, not learning, as I would discover later in the day), followed by a lesson on FIDO, which stands for Flight Data Input Output. FIDO is basically a computer system that keeps track of flight plans for IFR (instrument flight rule) flights. This is essentially a fancy system that prints out pieces of paper...
Today was our first “block” test – which covered several lessons out of our academics portion of class. We started off with the test first thing today. It went okay, but I wish I would’ve scored a perfect (I didn’t). Fortunately, this test is less than 1% of my overall grade, and there are only a few of them, majority of my grade (90%) will come from the final evaluations on the final days of class, so...
It’s finally Friday! It’s been a long week with long days in the classroom with long and sometimes dry lectures. Fortunately, our instructors do a pretty good job of keeping things entertaining, but sometimes dry material is just dry material.
We’ve visited the labs a few times just to see what they’re like, but it’ll be another two weeks before we get started in them full time...
Okay, another double header today for the post. Lots of studying to get to, so I won’t be writing much.
Yesterday was my “first” day of tower training class, since Tuesday was just a “get oriented” day. In the morning we had to take a series of physiological tests, some of which we already took during the hiring process, others that are being used to track our...
Okay, so one day in and I'm already a day behind on this. Sorry, everyone. I'll try to do better in the future.
Anyways, yesterday (Monday) I made the drive from my hometown to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. My drive took me all the way down the interstate except in Kansas where I took back country roads to avoid the toll roads...
Since leaving the Delta world earlier this year, many of you may have been wondering what I am up to these days. Several of you have asked, "Do you miss the travel?" Others have asked, "What are you doing for work now?" Some of you may not have realized until now that I had departed from...
So many websites! For the past few months, I've been working round the clock (quite literally!) building websites. I guess you could say it's a new hobby of mine. This all started back in 2014 when I was in college, a friend of mine and I decided to build some websites...
